Champagne Sunset Sail in Bali: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

1 min read

Drinks served on the aft deck of a yacht at sunset in Bali

Champagne is the most common upgrade people ask about for a Bali sunset sail — and it's worth being clear about what it actually adds before you pay for it.

What the upgrade typically includes

A standard sunset sail usually comes with soft drinks and snacks. The champagne upgrade adds a bottle (or a few, depending on group size), proper glassware, and usually canapés to go with it — turning a casual evening cruise into something that reads as a celebration without much extra planning on your end.

When it's worth it

  • Anniversaries, birthdays, or any occasion you're already marking
  • Proposals — champagne timed to the actual sunset is a small detail that does a lot of work
  • Groups who'd be bringing their own bottle anyway — let the crew handle the glassware and chilling
  • Honestly, any trip where you want the evening to feel like more than a standard tour

When you can skip it

If you're after the sunset itself more than the occasion around it, the standard sail covers that perfectly well. The upgrade is about atmosphere, not about seeing the sunset better — the view is the same either way.

Bringing your own instead

Most charters are happy for you to bring your own champagne or wine aboard rather than booking the upgrade — ask when you book if you'd rather supply your own bottle and just want the crew to chill and serve it.
